The Maze Runner tops box-office with $32 million, with a sequel on the way
This weekend was dominated by the YA film adaptation of ‘The Maze Runner’ from 20th Century Fox, the film brought in $32.5 million in its opening weekend across the nation. Along with the top-spot, FOX has already confirmed a sequel for the film, expected to start shooting in 2015.
Also opening this weekend was ‘A Walk Among The Tombstones’ from Universal, starring Liam Neeson. That film took in just over $13 million domestically, while opening at 2,712 locations. The only other major film to also open this week was ‘This Is Where I Leave You’ from Warner Bros. Pictures, starring Jason Bateman and Tina Fey, that film brought-in an estimated $11.9 million.
Rounding out the top-five was Sony Picture’s thriller ‘No Good Deed’ with an estimated $10.2 million, bringing that film’s total to $40 million to-date. The number five spot went to the family-friendly film ‘Dolphin Tale 2,’ also from Warner Bros., with an estimated $9 million this weekend. That raises Dolphin Tale Two’s total to a little over $27 million domestically.
