New Doctor Who premiere highest rated ever, and Daleks are next
The new season of Doctor Who is off to a terrific start. Not only is the BBC celebrating the launch of the new Doctor (played by Peter Capaldi) but they are doing so knowing that his premiere episode was the highest rated season premiere ever for BBC AMERICA.
According to the BBC’s report, many of us here in the U.S. were eager to see the award winning actor Peter Capaldi’s first full episode as the Doctor, as the show delivered 2.58 million total viewers from 8:00-10:00pm, and Doctor Who ranked as the #1 program in all of cable among total viewers and 25-54.
Adding to the achievements, BBC AMERICA was the #1 network and Doctor Who was the #1 show in all of television on Twitter and Tumblr for the day. Over 1 million total viewers tuned in for BBC AMERICA’s new eight part paranormal thriller, Intruders, which helped deliver BBC AMERICA its highest rated Saturday night ever.
That’s not all, just as the Doctor himself got his chance to premiere this season, many of his nemesis will also be making their debut. This Saturday’s episode, Into the Dalek, marks the return of the Doctor’s greatest enemy, the Daleks.
