In her continued fight against alcoholism, 20/20 co-anchor and ABC News correspondent Elizabeth Vargas has re-entered a rehab facility. It was Vargas’ rep that finally confirmed the move, after it was first printed by The New York Post.
This is Vargas’ second trip to rehab for the same condition, she first entered rehab back in November 2013. In a statement released by Vargas to THR, the popular correspondent stated, “While on vacation this weekend, I decided to return to a recovery center.”
Vargas continued, “As so many other recovering alcoholics know, overcoming the disease can be a long and incredibly difficult process.”
“I feel I have let myself, my co-workers and most importantly my family down, and for that I am ashamed and sorry,” she continued. “I am committed to battling and addressing this debilitating disease and want to thank everyone who has offered their unwavering support during this trying time.”
A second, third or fourth trip back to rehab can be very common steps on the road to recovery when battling alcoholism, though they are steps that most people try to avoid. Vargas will be writing a book on her battle, that memoir is set to hit shelves in the spring of 2016. More information on programing changes and any other updates will be released at a later date from ABC.
