TMNT Movies remains at number-one, The Giver and Expendables 3 open soft
With the end of summer comes the finale of blockbuster-entertainment (at least until this holiday) and as the final weeks of August slip-away, the TMNT stay at number one for the second straight week in a row.
This week Paramount’s ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ brought in another $28.4 million domestically, now the film’s two-week total has risen to just about $117.6 million to-date. Still performing well is Marvel’s ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy,’ which brought in another $24.7 million this weekend, bringing the film’s nationwide total to $222 million so far.
The 20th Century Fox film, ‘Let’s Be Cops’ reached an estimated $17.7 million this week, that film now has a total of $26 million domestically.
A leaked version of the film that hit torrent sites pre-release is probably the main cause of Lionsgate’s ‘The Expendables 3,’ only reaching $16.2 million in the film’s opening weekend. That excuse can not be given to ‘The Giver,’ from The Weinstein Company, which only hit $12.7 million this weekend domestically. That’s despite a flood of marketing leading up to the premiere and a gigantic cast including Jeff Bridges, Brenton Thwaites and Taylor Swift.
