Guardians of the Galaxy, Chris Pratt breaking records at the box-office
Chris Pratt is solidifying his role as a leading man this week, his new film ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ has been projected to take the number one spot in pre-opening spots for 2014 and break a few more records before August is all said and done.
The film opens today, and across the nation millions of people lined-up to be one of the first to see the sci-fi epic from Marvel Studios. The film follows an American pilot named Peter Quill who finds himself the object of a manhunt after stealing an orb coveted by the villainous Ronan.
Taking in just over $11 million in late-night screenings, the film beat-out a former Marvel titan at the box-office ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier.” That previous title holder opened at just over $10 million last April. It’s an amazing success for Chris Pratt, who has a sequel to the film already lined-up with Marvel, and a new Jurassic Park film launching in 2015.
Not just a Thursday night success, the film is expected to topple any August launch in history. The original title-holder for August was “The Bourne Ultimatum,” that film took over $69 million in August, but Guardians is expected to surpass $75 million before the month’s end.
The film itself was directed by James Gunn, based on a screenplay by James Gunn and Nicole Perlman. Joining Chris Pratt on screen are Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper and Zoe Saldana.
