Disney casts Neel Sethi as Mogwli for live-action Jungle Book
The hunt for Mogwli is now over, Walt Disney Studios has gone with a fresh-face for the live-action film that is set to release in 2016. The remake will star Neel Sethi as Mogwli, Jon Favreau is directing the live-action version of the story. The film will be based on a script by Justin Marks.
Sethi is a local New Yorker, he was picked from thousands of children that lined city-blocks all around the world. This will be young Sethi’s first acting role, and it’s a big on.
“Casting is the most important element of any film and finding the right kid to play Mowgli was imperative,” Favreau said in a statement sent to the press. “Neel has tremendous talent and charisma. There is a lot riding on his little shoulders and I’m confident he can handle it.”
Sethi was chosen because the team felt he had “the heart, humor, and daring of the character. He’s warm and accessible, yet also has an intelligence well beyond his years and impressed us all with his ability to hold his own in any situation. Even though he has no professional acting experience, his natural charisma and instincts jumped out at us.”
Disney will release “The Jungle Book” on Oct. 9, 2015 as part of a series of live-action films based on classic tales.
