There will be no Lady Stoneheart in Game of Thrones
Book readers, you will be the only Game of Thrones’ fans that will know of the strange wonderment that was Lady Stoneheart. At this point we have no idea what HBO will be doing in the future so be careful reading ahead, we don’t want to spoil anything for the TV-only watchers. You are heading into possible spoiler-country below.
If you have read the “A Song of Ice and Fire” novels then you were probably wondering where Lady Stoneheart was at the end of the season four finale. We have an answer to that question, but it’s not the one you probably were hoping for in the end. Within the books, Lady Stoneheart, the strange and somehow resurrected embodiment of Catelyn Stark, is the leader of a group of bandits that soon start dispatching the Lannister forces responsible for the horrific acts at the Red Wedding.
Fans should remember her appearance in the third novel, and since the season four finale ties in with that timeline, all of us were hoping to see her again. That didn’t happen, and now we know why from an interview with the Catelyn Stark actress Michelle Fairley who said, “Yeah, the character’s dead. She’s dead,” she said. “You respect the writers’ decision. I knew the arc, and that was it. They can’t stick to the books 100 percent. It’s impossible—they only have 10 hours per season. They have got to keep it dramatic and exciting, and extraneous stuff along the way gets lost in order to maintain the quality of brilliant show.”
