22 Jump Street slays How to Train Your Dragon 2 at opening weekend
This weekend ’22 Jump Street’ took the lead, surprising many, by beating out the highly-anticipated sequel ‘How to Train Your Dragon 2′ at the box-office. Taking in an estimated $60 million dollars, the film easily took the number-one spot according to marketing firm Rentrax. Starring Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill, the buddy-cop comedy opened to mostly favorable reviews.
Dreamworks’ follow-up animated project still did remarkably well in the film’s opening weekend, bringing in an estimated $50 million domestically. Still clinging on to the top-three is Disney’s ‘Maleficent,’ that film took in another $19 million this weekend, now topping $163 million domestically in total.
The sci-fi drama ‘Edge of Tomorrow’ starring Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt added another $16 million to Warner Bros. growing coffers, bringing the domestic total to just over $56.6 million so far.
