Dreamworks’ ‘How to Train Your Dragon 2’ will hit IMAX on June 13

‘How to Train Your Dragon 2’ is easily one of this year’s highest-anticipated films, it marks the second chapter of the franchise, and will be digitally re-mastered into the immersive IMAX 3D format and released across all IMAX theatres domestically in select engagements starting June 13, the same day the film – which will be distributed by 20th Century Fox – opens wide in the US.

Dean DeBlois returns to direct the follow-up to the 2010 Academy Award-nominated How to Train Your Dragon, which grossed nearly $495 million at the global box office and more than $277 million internationally. Stars Jay Baruchel, Gerard Butler, Craig Ferguson, America Ferrera, Jonah Hill, T.J. Miller, Christopher Mintz-Plasse and Kristen Wiig reprise their respective voice roles, joined this time by Academy Award winner Cate Blanchett, Djimon Honsou and Kit Harington.

Currently one of the best-reviewed movies of the year, How to Train Your Dragon 2 returns to the fantastical world of the heroic Viking Hiccup and his faithful dragon, Toothless. The inseparable duo must protect the peace – and save the future of men and dragons from the power-hungry Drago.

“This is one of the most cinematic animated movies we’ve ever seen, and the epic nature of the film coupled with the incredible new technology DreamWorks used to create it makes this simply stunning in IMAX 3D,” said Greg Foster, Senior Executive Vice President, IMAX Corp. and CEO of IMAX Entertainment. “As with several movies that have recently taken off in IMAX, this is one of those rare films that will come to life in an incomparable way through our immersive format. Our audiences will truly feel like they are flying on the back of Toothless, and we’re pleased to once again be partnering with DreamWorks Animation to bring this adventurous film to life.”
