Taylor Swift is the latest artist to support READ, benefiting the ALA
At just 24, Taylor Swift is one of Hollywood’s most charitable celebrities, and the pop-star is furthering her charity-repertoire by joining the READ foundation. Other top actors and artists that have taken center-stage for the posters are Keira Knightley, Nathan Fillion and Salma Hayek.
The funds-earned support the American Library Association, Swift can be seen on the poster reading the Lois Lowry’s YA classic “The Giver,” winner of the 1994 Newbery Medal and the source of Swift’s next film-appearance. The film adaptation of ‘The Giver,’ is set to premiere in theaters later this summer, though Swift plays a smaller role, it’s one of the country mega-stars’ largest on screen appearances to-date. She will be sharing the screen with actors like Jeff Bridges, Meryl Streep and Katie Holmes.
In the film moviegoers will follow Jonas (Brenton Thwaites), a young man who lives in a seemingly ideal, if colorless, world of conformity and contentment. Yet as he begins to spend time with The Giver (Jeff Bridges), who is the sole keeper of all the community’s memories, Jonas quickly begins to discover the dark and deadly truths of his community’s secret past. With this newfound power of knowledge, he realizes that the stakes are higher than imagined – a matter of life and death for himself and those he loves most. At extreme odds, Jonas knows that he must escape their world to protect them all – a challenge that no one has ever succeeded at before.
The foundation began in 1985 and since then pop-culture icons and media personalities around the world have helped the foundation raise money for public libraries and supplying books for children and young-adults to enjoy.
