Just a week after Microsoft introduced the Surface 3 starting at $800 and running up to $2,000 depending on the model chosen, Toshiba launches the Excite Go tablet, starting at the other end of the price-spectrum.
The seven-inch Android 4.4-based tablet will have an MSRP starting at just $110, making it one of the least expensive tablets on the market today. Of course the low price means that you will be sacrificing a few features and settling on a few lower-end hardware decisions, but Toshiba is betting that not everyone will mind the trade.
“Consumers love handheld Android tablets as they offer portable entertainment at accessible prices and can be easily added as an additional device in the home,” said Philip Osako, senior director of product marketing, Toshiba America Information Systems, Inc., Digital Products Division. “The Excite Go is yet another example of Toshiba’s ability to provide affordable tablets with the latest version of Android, competitive features like Intel processors and solid build quality.”
With a satin gold finish, the Excite Go is both light in your bag and on your wallet. The device weighs only 12.5 ounces and the 7″ design is ideal for smaller-hand youngsters, or for adults that prefer the same single-hand experience they may find on their phones.
The resolution might be a turn-off for the spec-heavy tablet users that have become accustomed to Microsoft, Samsung and Google’s offerings lately, the Excite Go features a 1024×600 resolution, powered by a quad-core Intel Atom processor.
The Excite Go also comes pre-loaded with a full version of OfficeSuite Pro (a $14.99 value) promoting Microsoft’s latest application updates and features. Toshiba promises “7.5 hours of general use or up to 6 hours of video playback,” on a single-charge. This according to the company’s release on the device sent out earlier today.
The Excite Go comes equipped with up to 16GB of internal storage, but a Micro USB port and a microSD Card slot is also featured to allow customers to add up to 128GB for more room. The Excite Go will be available for purchase for $109.99 in early July at select retailers.
