Marvel chooses Channing Tatum as Gambit in future X-MEN film
Gambit is coming to the X-MEN films and Channing Tatum is taking the role. Marvel made the casting confirmation via producer Lauren Shuler Donner at the “X-Men: Days of Future Past” premiere in London.
It was during a simple red carpet interview with Total Film that Shuler Donner confirmed the casting choice: “He’s a rogue, Channing — he’s a rascal, just like Remy LeBeau. And he can handle the action, we all know that. And he’s got a really good heart … I think he’ll be great for Gambit.” LeBeau also added, “And he’s a southerner too … he understands that world, and you know Gambit loves New Orleans.”
In the past Tatum actually talk about the character and his desire to play the mutant on film, telling MTV, “Gambit is the only X-Man I’ve ever loved. I mean, I’ve loved them all, they’re all great, but I guess just being from down South; my dad’s from Louisiana, I’m from Mississippi, Alabama, Florida. I don’t know, I just related to him … I would die to play him.”
Fans of the comics and the films know that Gambit was actually in one of the previous installments already, Taylor Kitsch played the card-throwing hero in “X-Men Origins: Wolverine.”
