Magnolia nabs distribution to Shailene Woodley pic ”White Bird in a Blizzard’

In Between Divergent films Shailene Woodley has been starring in quite a few indie-dramas, including ‘The Fault in Our Stars’ and ‘White Bird in a Blizzard,’ the latter of which was just picked up by Magnolia.

The studio has now secured the North American distribution rights to the film, which in the deal will now get a theatrical release nationwide later this year. The film was lead by director Gregg Araki, who also wrote the script to the film which was based on the popular novel from Laura Kasischke.

Joining Woodley on the project were actors Eva Green, Christopher Meloni, Shiloh Fernandez, Gabourey Sidibe, Thomas Jane and Angela Bassett. The film itself centers on Woodley’s character, a young teen heading to college when her mother mother (played by Green) vanishes from her life. While growing into her own person, Woodley realizes the effect that her mother’s disappearance has on her life, and how she is now left to deal with the aftermath.

The film did incredibly well at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. No date for a theatrical release-date was given at this time.
