A spin-off film of Sony Pictures’ “The Amazing Spider-Man’ series will soon become a reality if everything continues to follow its course. Sony chose Drew Goddard to write the script for the new film back in December of last year, the project will focus on the ‘Sinister Six’ from the comic-book franchise.
Sony has been planning to expand ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ story for sometime now, all in an effort to keep up with the ever-growing Marvel Universe that has done so well at the box-office. Also attached is Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci, and Ed Solomon who are working towards a Venom film for the studio. The Venom story will have Alex Kurtzman as the director.
Back When Drew Goddard was first chosen to write the script for ‘Sinister Six’ the idea was that he would direct the film if it was possible at the time of shooting. Fans of the original comic-series should have no issues remembering the six villains that made up the small group against Spider-Man, those were Doctor Octopus, Electro, The Sandman, Mysterio, Vulture and Kraven the Hunter.
With Webb directing the latest version of the Spider-Man story, ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2,’ with Andrew Garfield as the leading role, it will be interesting to see if any doors are left open to expanding the franchise this early in the game. That film will debut in theaters on May 2.
The third installment to the new Spider-Man trilogy is already under-way, with both Kurtzman and Orci behind the project. In an investor call Sony gave the fourth installment a release date of May 4, 2018.
There are a lot of talented people working on all of the projects so far, although it may be difficult to keep track of each of the spin-offs, trilogies and new announcements, we hope that the third and fourth films of ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ will start to bring Peter Parker’s expanding world into focus.
