Cobie Smulders talks HIMYM finale, planning the ending from the start
Tonight is the series finale of “How I Met Your Mother,” and after you’re all cried out, you can listen to series star Cobie Smulders talks about saying goodbye. Smulders will be on the Late Show with David Letterman tonight, March 31 (11:35 PM-12:37 AM, ET/PT) on CBS.
Smulders talked about the finale (which hadn’t aired yet) saying, “Well, without going into too much detail, this last episode…which aired this evening is an hour-long and it really wraps it all up, and we not only get to see them meet each other for the first time, but also we’re jumping forward into the future, so we get to, like, see these characters and their relationships 20 years in the future and see what they ended up doing.”
Smulders also talked about how the ending was planned and how the children fit into the whole ending that would be shown in just a few hours after the tapping.
“But Carter and Craig are so smart. They had actually planned the ending during our pilot. They shot some scenes with the two children who are now – I mean, we shot it with them and they were teenagers and they’re now in their mid-20s, and we shot this whole scene with them. And so it’s kind of amazing that it’s been nine years, and it’s come full circle and we’ve been allowed – they’ve been allowed to see their vision through. It’s pretty amazing.”
