Quite a few announcements went out today from Universal Pictures, the studio set release dates for a few of its major films, which are set to come out over the next two years. The confirmations went out earlier today and show a busy month in October for the studio.
The highly anticipated sequel, Pitch Perfect 2, a film that will be directed by Elizabeth Banks, is set to debut on May 15, 2015. Also announced was the new film from Legendary Pictures, Crimson Peak. That film will be written by del Tor, Matthew Robbins and Lucinda Coxon and will have del Toro as the director as well. Crimson Peak took an October 16, 2015 release date, a perfect fit going into Halloween. The film stars Mia Wasikowska, Tom Hiddleston, Jessica Chastain, Charlie Hunnam and Jim Beaver.
The film ‘As Above, So Below’ is a new thriller from Legendary Pictures, now set to launch on Friday, August 15, 2014. John Erick Dowdle is set to direct that film. The small budget horror will have stiff competition, though not in its category, it will debut alongside Lionsgate’s Expendables 3 and The Weinstein Co.’s film adaptation of The Giver.
Another thriller, albeit a crime-orientated one this time, is ‘A Walk Among the Tombstones’, based on a novel by Lawrence Block. The film is now set to debut on Friday, September 19, 201 and will star Liam Neeson and Dan Stevens from Downton Abbey.
In September fans can look forward to the September 19, 2014 release date for the film adaptation of the popular YA series, The Maze Runner, and a follow up to Dolphin Tale from Warner Bros.
Getting back into the horror business, Ouija will be released on Friday, October 24, 2014. That film will also hope to take advantage of the Halloween season. That film was directed by Stiles White and stars Olivia Cooke and Douglas Smith. The film is being produced by Michael Bay, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form, Brian Goldner and Bennett Schneir for Hasbro. It will have very strong competition, as most horrors do at that time of year, Paranormal Activity 5 is also set to release on that weekend.
That leaves us with the Jason Clarke, Josh Brolin, John Hawkes and Jake Gyllenhaal in the film ‘Everest,’ the film will land in theaters on Friday, February 27, 2015.
