In a new animated version, How the Grinch Stole Christmas is set to be released from Universal Pictures in 2017. The studio made the announcement earlier this afternoon, though no exact details other than the yearly timeframe could be given at this time.
This will be a new animated version, not a sequel or a remake of the live-action Jim Carrey version of the film. The new version will be directed by Pete Candeland and produced by Illusion Entertainment, that would be the same animation studio that developed the new animated Lorax movie.
Although another was never made, the live-action version from Jim Carrey was nothing to scoff at, it grossed a little over $340 million dollars worldwide back in its day. More information on voice-casting and other details will be released as the film gets further along in production.
