There is a new feature on Pandora (NYSE: P), the service announced the launch of personalized station recommendations in the Pandora mobile app. The new feature, now available on iOS and Android smartphones and tablets, leverages the company’s advanced recommendation technology to suggest new station ideas based on current listening preferences. Listeners will be offered up to 6 personalized artist station recommendations at a time, which will be displayed in their station list and when they create or delete a station.
Pandora’s Chief Scientist, Eric Bieschke, said, “Music discovery has always been at the heart of the Pandora experience and we’ve spent the last thirteen years working on the most sophisticated music recommendation system ever created. With a highly engaged audience of 76.2 million active monthly listeners, who have registered more than 35 billion pieces of thumb feedback, Pandora is uniquely positioned to deliver the perfect balance of familiarity, discovery, relevance and repetition for each individual listener. We are excited to apply this same thinking to station recommendations on mobile devices.”
The product enhancement will launch with artist station recommendations. The developers state that, “The more a listener engages with the product, the more Pandora will learn about their tastes and be able to further optimize the station recommendations for the best personalized listening experience.”
