Matt Smith says goodbye to his role as Doctor Who
This week we saw the end of Matt Smith as Doctor Who, the Eleventh Doctor, who said his final goodbyes as the leading role during the special Christmas episode that aired this week. As with tradition, the episode also featured the regeneration scene, from the Eleventh Doctor into the Twelfth Doctor.
In the episode The Doctor picked up a strange signal broadcasting from a special town called Christmas. So many great enemies appeared in the special, the Daleks, Time Lords, Cybermen, Weeping Angels and more all made special appearances. In the end we finally met Peter Capaldi, who is now known as the Twelfth Doctor.
In one of the more touching moments we saw The Doctor say his goodbye to Jenna Coleman’s Clara Oswald and Amy Pond (Karen Gillan) who made an unannounced appearance just for the occasion. Just as the world was tearing up on Twitter the phrase, “I will always remember when the Doctor was me” was uttered and I wept and said goodbye myself. The now iconic bow-tie fell to the floor and then the Twelfth Doctor appeared.
It was a very fast transformation, much faster than some of the previous version have been in the past. The new Doctor had “Just one question,” that he quickly asked Clara. “Do you happen to know how to fly this thing?” he said as the TARDIS spun widely.
The whole event paled in comparison to the David Tennant farewell as the Tenth Doctor, in my opinion, but it was emotional to say the least. Now we all wait, for the 12th Doctor to wow us in 2014.
