The official NPD numbers came out today and both consoles seem to be doing extremely well. Sony and Microsoft have their own stats that they would like to share, and the number show a neck-and-neck race for both parties.
Sony is touting, “the top-selling console for November and PlayStation was #1 in sales overall for home consoles.” While Microsoft states that its Xbox One was “the fastest selling console on the market in the U.S.” These stats are not worldwide, it’s for just one country, and both proclamations could probably use an Asterix or two explaining the real numbers.
Sony failed to state how many PS4 units were sold, and neither team is revealing any concrete numbers that would put one in front of another. Sony has gone on record stating that the PS4 sold over 2.1 million units of the PS4, and we know thatMicrosoft has sold over 2 million units of the Xbox One console.
The real facts will come out when Sony and Microsoft disclose their sales on the Q4 investor call, unfortunately that won’t be until the new year.
The Xbox One and the PS4 are still hard to get items, Amazon has the Xbox One in stock (when this article was written) and the PS4 was on-hand at the retailer earlier this afternoon. Odds are both will be much more available after the holiday season.
