Fran Drescher is the Evil Stepmother in Broadway’s Cinderella
It’s one of Broadway’s most highly anticipated revivals for 2014, and taking the part of the evil stepmother is non other than everyone’s favorite nanny, Fran Drescher. It was confirmed today (Monday) that the producers of “Rodgers + Hammerstein’s Cinderella” have chosen Fran Drescher (who remarkably will just now be making her Broadway debut) for the February 4th opening of the show. Fans can catch Drescher’s performance in her 10-week run that will end on April 13.
Drescher is an Emmy Award winning actor best known for her role as the ‘fish-out-water’ housekeeper on “The Nanny.” One of her first movie roles was in “The Cadillac Man” and had a very short part during the album release party of “This is Spinal Tap,” (think, can be this be more black? The answer is no).
This will be a new reincarnation of the classic-fairytale, once a Tony-nominated musical, it will be remade for a modern generation to fall in love with from the workings of Douglas Carter Beane.
