By now you know that this year’s Spike TV Video Game awards will be in a different format. The whole event is scheduled to go live at 6pm ET, and you can watch the official live-feed below. “South Park” creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone will be on hand along with an exclusive sneak peek of the highly anticipated game “South Park: The Stick of Truth.”
The new VGX format dives deeper into the world of gaming and extends its coverage beyond awards presentations. Fans will have unprecedented access to the industry’s top developers and talent and more exclusive world premieres than ever including exclusive new looks at “Titanfall,” “Quantum Break,” “South Park: The Stick of Truth,” “Broken Age,” “Dying Light,” “Tom Clancy’s The Division,” and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.” VGX will also feature Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime presenting a new look at an upcoming Wii U game.
“For years gamers have been telling us to focus on content over celebrity,” said Casey Patterson, Executive Vice President, Event Production, Talent Development & Studio Relations, Viacom Entertainment Group. “We are stripping away anything that takes time away from world premieres and interviews with the community of game developers that the fans want to hear from. We are also thrilled to be working with Rockstar Games to present the music of Grand Theft Auto V in a performance you won’t see anywhere else.”
While its roots lie in the Video Game Awards, VGX ‘s brand new studio format will do away with the “Hollywood award show” in favor of a gamer focused studio show, that will feature interviews, more world premieres and game demos. The new format features more games, less fame, in an intimate studio setting.
