Have you ever sat around the living room after watching ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’ thinking about how they should just add-on another installment to the classic film? Odds are you have not, but that won’t stop Hollywood from adding another film to the American classic called….sigh…”It’s A Wonderful Life: The Rest of the Story”.
The original film was made in 1946, it was directed by Frank Capra and starred the one and only Jimmy Stewart and his on-screen wife Donna Reed. The film was nominated for five Oscars, an impressive achievement at the time. If you haven’t watched the classic, it is about George Bailey, a man who thinks the world would have been better off if he never existed, and wishes that he hadn’t on Christmas Eve. That’s when his guardian angel shows up and lets George experience a life without him in it, and shows us all how one man can have terrific effects on the people around him.
That’s when the magic ends because now Bailey’s daughter Zuzu is an angel, she will show the grandson (named George Bailey) how the world WOULD have been better without him in it. Yes it’s as horrible sounding as one could imagine, considering that this is happening to a young boy. Somehow the film industry has convinced Karolyn Grimes, the original Zuzu, to reprise her role but no other roles have been revealed.
“The new film will retain the feeling of the original, and it simply must be shared,” Grimes said. “I’ve probably read close to 20 scripts over the years suggesting a sequel to It’s a Wonderful Life, but none of them were any good. The script by Bob Farnsworth and Martha Bolton was wonderful, and I wanted to be involved with his version of the film immediately.”
