JamieDornanAfter Charlie Hunnam backed away just days after it was revealed that he would play the lead role in 50 Shades of Grey, everyone wanted to know who would replace him. Now it has been confirmed that Jamie Dornan will now take the role. Universal and Focus hope to start production as early as April, the first film adaptation of the popular book ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ won’t be ready for some time.
It may seem like a while, but Hunnam only dropped the project a little under two-weeks ago, Dornan was one of a few actors chosen to read against Dakota Johnson. For the record, Hunnam and Universal said his leaving the project was a mere scheduling conflict, thigh many suspect it was the general upheaval of the passionate fan base upon him being chosen that made him back down.
Dornan was always in the running, he screen-tested just this last Friday with Dakota Johnson under the eyes of director Sam Taylor-Johnson, author EL James and producers Michael De Luca and Dana Brunetti. As of right now the project is being scheduled for an Aug. 1, 2014, release date.
