Lucasfilm and Disney have finally revealed the opposing villain that will star in the upcoming animated TV series Star Wars Rebels. Shown above you can see the Inquisitor, whom writers have described as an “intimidating figure.” The character was first debuted at New York Comic-Con during the Lucasfilm panel earlier today (Saturday).
As for a backstory, we know that The Inquisitor was personally hired by Darth Vader, under the orders to seek-out and destroy any jedi that may have eluded his grip. Also making an appearance are the iconic Storm Troopers from the original films. We also know the timeline for the series, the events will take place between Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope. That gives the writers about 20 years to work new content in without altering the Star Wars universe.
At this time in the franchise, “the Empire is securing its grip on the galaxy and hunting down the last of the Jedi Knights as a fledgling rebellion against the Empire is taking shape.” Fans can expect to see Star Wars Rebels when it premieres on Disney Channel in 2014, it will then move after the first premiere special to Disney XD.
