Simpsons fans can bet on at least one more season of the pioneering animated comedy, FOX made the announcement earlier today. This will add one more season to The Simpsons streak as both an animated series, and as an American sitcom in general.
“For more than a quarter of a century, ‘The Simpsons’ has captured the hearts and minds of fans in a way that transcends ages, languages and cultures,” said Fox entertainment chairman Kevin Reilly. “This groundbreaking series is not only the longest-running scripted show in television history, it’s one of the greatest sitcoms of our time, and I’m looking forward to yet another landmark season.”
The renewal shouldn’t be too surprising, the series still performs well, brings in the popular icons from the entertainment industry on a regular bases, and even made headlines this week as it promised to kill off a character. The series also went into a syndication deal this year, allowing the 500+ episodes to hit cable reruns, adding even more cash to the coffers.
