September 2013 Movie Guide

 
Fall is the battleground for the year’s biggest blockbusters, as moviegoers flock to theaters through September and then the holiday season, there are more movies available than any other time of the year. Here is the list of September’s films, though it should be noted that exact dates may change at the studios’ request.
 
Premiering on SEPT. 13
 
AND WHILE WE WERE HERE
Kate Bosworth stars a woman on vacation with her husband (played by Iddo Goldberg) in Italy who begins a relationship with a younger man (played by Jamie Blackley) . Kat Coiro directed the film.
 
BLUE CAPRICE
This film is based on the 2002 Beltway sniper attacks, (Isaiah Washington) takes on the role of the father-figure of a young immigrant (Tequan Richmond). Alexandre Moors directed; also included in the film are Joey Lauren Adams and Tim Blake Nelson.
 
THE FAMILY
Mafia Boss (Robert De Niro) is part of the witness protection program, he and his wife (Michelle Pfeiffer) are moved to a small town in France, where (Tommy Lee Jones) their handler, has to keep them on the straight and narrow. Luc Besson directed the film.
 
GMO OMG
A film based on genetically modified food, it’s affects on the body and society. Jeremy Seifert directed.
 
GOOD OL’ FREDA
This film is based on Freda Kelly from Liverpool, she was a secretary for the Beatles for their entire stint together as the legendary band. This documentary was directed by Ryan White.
 
HERB & DOROTHY 50×50
A follow-up film to the 2008 documentary “Herb & Dorothy,” the story follows a former postal worker and a librarian, Herb and Dorothy Vogel. The two amassed a now famous art collection.
 
INFORMANT
This documentary is a profile of Brandon Darby, who founded the popular relief organization Common Ground, he later confessed to being an F.B.I. informant.
 
INSIDIOUS: CHAPTER 2
The second installment to the INSIDIOUS franchise brings back director James Wan and writer Leigh Whannell. This film is a sequel to the 2010 film. The story focuses on one family’s encounter with the supernatural. Starring Patrick Wilson, Rose Byrne, Lin Shaye, Barbara Hershey and Ty Simpkins.
 

 
JAYNE MANSFIELD’S CAR
This film stars Billy Bob Thornton, who also directed the film. Taking place in Alabama in 1969, the film is a story of two families brought together by a funeral. The project also stars Kevin Bacon, John Hurt, Ray Stevenson, Shawnee Smith, Robert Duvall, Robert Patrick and Mr. Thornton.
 
THE LAST TIME I SAW MACAO
On the search for a friend that disappeared, the hunt sparks an essay about the once prominent Portuguese colony. The film was both written and directed by João Pedro Rodrigues and João Rui Guerra da Mata.
 
THE LITTLE MERMAID 3D
Disney is bringing back Ariel, one of the most popular Disney princesses in the company’s collection. The film will hit theaters once again in 3-D. The film was directed by Ron Clements and John Musker.
 
MADEMOISELLE C
Yet another docu-drama, this documentary focuses on Carine Roitfeld, a once powerful editor from Vogue Paris. The film was directed by Fabien Constant.
 
MONEY FOR NOTHING: INSIDE THE FEDERAL RESERVE
This documentary will be narrated by Liev Schreiber, the film attempts to uncover the inner-secrets and dealings that make-up the United States Federal Reserve. The film was written and directed by Jim Bruce.
 
MOTHER OF GEORGE
Finally an independant feature makes the list. This film is from Andrew Dosunmu’s and it stars Danai Gurira and Isaach De Bankolé. The two play a Nigerian couple who have made their home in Brooklyn. After failing to conceive, the couple faces scrutiny from their immigrant community.

Gene Simmons narrates this film about the Incredible Bongo Band, The film was directed by Dan Forrer.
 
SNAKE AND MONGOO$E
Don (Snake) Prudhomme, Tom (Mongoo$e) McEwan, are two rivals in this dramatization directed by Wayne Holloway. The film also stars Jesse Williams, Richard Blake, Tim Blake Nelson, Noah Wyle, Ashley Hinshaw and Kim Shaw.
 
WADJDA
A touching story of Haifaa al-Mansour, she was the first Saudi woman to direct a feature film and the film picks up the story as 10 year old girl.

NEWLYWEEDS
A comedy makes its way into our list. This project from Shaka King stars Amari Cheatom and Trae Harris who play a marijuana-loving couple facing some tough times.

AFTER TILLER
A film that is sure to cause a lot of debate, the story focuses on the assassination of Dr. George Tiller in 2009, one of the few four doctors in America who openly perform third-trimester abortions. The documentary by Martha Shane and Lana Wilson tells their story of the events.
 
BATTLE OF THE YEAR
Starring (Laz Alonso) a team of dancers hope to win the international hip-hop dance trophy for their home country. Also starring Josh Holloway, Josh Peck, Caity Lotz and Chris Brown; Benson Lee directed the film.
 
THE COLONY
A large-budget picture, this one stars Laurence Fishburne, Kevin Zegers and Bill Paxton and centers on a post-apocalyptic story. After a new ice-age forces humans to live underground, the survivors must rely on each other to survive. Directed by Jeff Renfroe.
 
ENOUGH SAID
This is Nicole Holofcener’s latest project that stars Julia Louis-Dreyfus as a recently divorced woman. She is joined by her friend (Catherine Keener) who helps her navigate her new relationship with (James Gandolfini) The project also stars Toni Collette and Ben Falcone.
 
GENERATION IRON
A documentary bodybuilders all competing for the title of Mr. Olympia. The film was directed by Vlad Yudin. Mickey Rourke was chosen to narrate the film.
 
HAUTE CUISINE
A Perigord chef (Catherine Frot) helps her employer (Jean d’Ormesson) love traditional food again. Christian Vincent directed the project and also stars Hippolyte Girardot.
 
JEWTOPIA
a story of a boy who falls for a Jewish girl, since he is not Jewish he relies on his Jewish best friend from childhood to fake it. The film stars Ivan Sergei, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Joel David Moore, Jamie-Lynn Sigler, Tom Arnold, Jon Lovitz, Wendie Malick, Nicollette Sheridan, Peter Stormare and Rita Wilson. Bryan Fogel wrote and directed the film.
 

 
MEN AT LUNCH
This is based on the very popular “Lunch Atop a Skyscraper,” the photo from the 1932 construction of the RCA Building. The movie was directed by Sean O Cualain.
 
THE MUSLIMS ARE COMING!
A comedy involving Muslim stand-up comedians (Dean Obeidallah, Negin Farsad, Maysoon Zayid, Aron Kader, Omar Elba, Preacher Moss and Kareem Omary) they are on tour in the south. Obeidallah and Farsad directed the film.

A typical college party goes wrong when Rhys Wakefield (“The Black Balloon”) and his friends try and survive the night. The film was directed by Dennis Iliadis and also stars Logan Miller.
 
PRICE OF GOLD
A documentary on the the sudden influx of gold mining in Mongolia, the film is from Sven Zellner.
 
PRISONERS
The big titles start role in at this point, and leading the way is (Hugh Jackman) who’s little girl disappears. As the center of Jackman’s suspicions is (Paul Dano) but a lack of evidence keeps the assigned officer (Jake Gyllenhaal) from formerly pressing charges. The film also stars Melissa Leo, Maria Bello, Viola Davis and Terrence Howard; Denis Villeneuve directed the film.
 
RUSH
This story is about the 1970s rivalry during the the Formula One circuit centered around James Hunt (Chris Hemsworth) and the Austrian Niki Lauda (Daniel Brühl). Penned by screenwriter Peter Morgan and directed by Ron Howard. Also starring Olivia Wilde and Alexandra Maria Lara.
 
THE SHORT GAME
The story behind a few 7-year-olds that training for the World Championships of Junior Golf. The film was directed by Josh Greenbaum.
 
A SINGLE SHOT
Starring Sam Rockwell as a hunter who kills a woman accidently, who then turns out to have had a lot of cash on her person. It isn’t long before the money’s owners come looking for the missing funds. The film stars William H. Macy, Jeffrey Wright, Jason Isaacs and Kelly Reilly; David M. Rosenthal directed.
 
THANKS FOR SHARING
A new film about a 12-step program for sex addicts. This film has some big names including (Mark Ruffalo, Tim Robbins and Josh Gad). The other stars in the film include Gwyneth Paltrow. Stuart Blumberg directed and write the script. Also starring Joely Richardson, Patrick Fugit and Alecia Moore.
 
ZAYTOUN
Taking place in 1982, the film centers around the civil war in Lebanon. The story follows an Israeli pilot (Stephen Dorff) who is taken prisoner in a Palestinian refugee camp. The film was directed by Eran Riklis.

BAGGAGE CLAIM
A rom-com about a flight attendant (Paula Patton) searching for a mate, the film also stars Derek Luke, Taye Diggs, Jill Scott, Boris Kodjoe, Tremaine Neverson, Adam Brody, Jenifer Lewis and Lauren London; David E. Talbert wrote and directed the film, based on the novel of the same name.
 
THE CITIZEN
Is one of the few films that are based on a true story. This film is based on a Muslim immigrant who achieved a green through a lucky draw, but arrived one day before Sept. 11. Starring Khaled Nabawy, Agnes Bruckner, Rizwan Manji and Cary Elwes; Sam Kadi directed the film.
 
CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF MEATBALLS 2
Yay for animated features! The first animated movie on our list is the sequel following Flint Lockwood (voiced of Bill Hader). Other voices come from Anna Faris, Will Forte, Andy Samberg, Benjamin Bratt, Neil Patrick Harris, Terry Crews and Kristen Schaal. Cody Cameron and Kris Pearn directed this film.
 
DON JON
This film did fairly well on the festival circuit. The first film that Joseph Gordon-Levitt wrote, directed and stars in. The film is a romantic comedy about internet pornography and a new lover (Scarlett Johansson) and how the two collide. Also starring in the movie is Julianne Moore, Tony Danza, Brie Larson and Glenne Headly.
 

 
HÔTEL NORMANDY
This comedy is the story of a young widow (played by Héléna Noguerra) who decides to throw herself a lavish 40th birthday party in France. The film was directed by Charles Nemes and stars Eric Elmosnino and Ary Abittan.
 
INEQUALITY FOR ALL
A film about Robert Reich, the secretary of labor during the Clinton administration, and the beginning of the now apparent income gap between classes in America. Jacob Kornbluth directed the film.
 
METALLICA THROUGH THE NEVER
This film is pretty much what you would expect from the title. The 3-D film is half concert, half story, featuring Metallica and their roadie (Dane DeHaan), The roadie finds more than he bargained for when tasked with errands before the band’s big show. The project was directed by Nimród Antal.
 
MORNING
Starring (Jeanne Tripplehorn) and (Leland Orser) who lose a child and must struggle to keep their marriage together. Leland Orser directed the film and it also stars Laura Linney, Elliott Gould, Kyle Chandler and Jason Ritter.
 
MUSCLE SHOALS
This film is about FAME Studios located in Muscle Shoals, Ala., and follows the history of the many musicians that helped make the “Muscle Shoals sound” so popular. In the film are Gregg Allman, Bono, Clarence Carter, Mick Jagger, Etta James, Alicia Keys, Keith Richards and Percy Sledge; Greg Camalier directed the film.
 
ON THE JOB
A story about convicts that are tasked with killing people while they are on their awarded “day release”. The film was directed by Erik Matti.
 
OUT IN THE DARK
The same-sex romance between a Palestinian student and an Israeli lawyer in Tel Aviv is the center of this film. The film stars Nicholas Jacob, Michael Aloni and Jameel Khouri; Michael Mayer directed the film.
 
THE SECRET LIVES OF DORKS
THis is a typical high-school jaunt, including students that try and attract the opposite sex. Starring Gaelan Connell, Vanessa Marano and Beau Mirchoff. Salomé Breziner directed the film.
 
WE ARE WHAT WE ARE
After a rainstorm almost kills an entire family, secrets hidden away are revealed. Jim Mickle directed the film.
