Lady Gaga releases new album Applause one-week early, defies pirates and Katy Perry
Just a little over 12 hours ago Katy Perry debuted her new album ‘Roar’ and at the same time Lady Gaga’s new track ‘Applause’ was leaked early online. The fact that the album was leaked early caused Gaga to jump into emergency mode. Gaga announced announced in all-caps, “DUE TO HACKERS AN ABUNDANCE OF LOW/HIGH QUALITY LEAKS…WE ISSUE THIS POP MUSIC EMERGENCY…MONSTERS SPREAD THE WORD”) and that just exploded all over the place.
The song is a return for Gaga to the club-centric pop-hits of yesteryear. The song seems custom-made for the largest clubs, systems and parties that you would expect to facilitate a Lady Gaga affair. The song states, “I stand here waiting for you to bang the going/To crash the critic saying ‘Is it right or is it wrong?” The chorus jumps into, “I live for the applause.”
Now Perry and Gaga will have to battle it out over number one this week, something that everyone eventually expected to happen on the charts. It will be impossible for fans not to argue over which song is better now that they are directly competing with one another on the charts. Gaga said this move was because of hackers, though only tidbits of the song were released, which is odd in a true “leak” and it has many in the industry claiming that the whole thing is a publicity stunt, and a reason to release the album early.
