When choosing a name for the sequel to the social-media firestorm ‘Sharknado’ the project-leads looked to Twitter to name it. The Twittersphere did not let anyone down. SyFy held a poll for Sharknado 2 subtitles and then finally chose a winner earlier today.
The winning choice was “Sharknado 2: The Second One” just as corny as the first movie, and sure to be a hit with fans. “Since Twitter played such a huge role in the success of the original movie, we wanted to use that platform to ask our fans to name Sharknado 2,” says Thomas Vitale, executive vp of programming at Syfy.. “This response is another reminder of how Sharknado has become a pop culture phenomenon. We want to thank all our viewers for their wonderful contributions to keeping up the shark-mentum.” he told EW.
The SyFy network received more than 5,000 names from all around the world when it announced the contest. It’s still unclear if Sharknado 2 will ever be able to catch lightning in a bottle twice, but we will all find out when the film hits the network next July 2014.
