Co-founder of Giant Bomb, Ryan Davis dies at 34
In truly heartbreaking news, one of the premier journalists and pioneer of early internet game-journalism Ryan Davis, has passed away at the age of 34.
Davis had a very extensive career in the video-game industry, he was once an editor for GameSpot, and was the co-founder of the popular site Giant Bomb. It was that site that first reported his death, Davis passed away on July 3, 2013 at the age of 34.
He spent eight years at GameSpot, starting in 2000. It has been 5 years since Giant Bomb was first created, and Davis had been there from the beginning. He was a constant for the site, and his articles were usually big hits with readers. He was also the host of the Giant Bombcast, and was the guiding force at the site’s PAX Prime and PAX East panels. CBS Interactive, acquired Giant Bomb and GameStop eventually, bringing Davis’ two former homes under one roof.
On Giant Bomb’s site Matthew Rorie stated in a open letter, “Ryan was a good friend to all of us,” he added, “It’s odd to remember that, for someone who could be so acerbic at times, and despite knowing him for almost a decade, I honestly don’t recall ever actually being mad at him.” Matthew also added, “In the face of this awfulness, many of us will at least always remember him as we last saw him: outrageously, uproariously happy, looking forward to his next adventure with the biggest grin his face could hold.”
Davis was recently married, last June. His picture (shown on the right, was posted with the open letter on Giant Bomb’s site below.)
