Sony prices the 4K Ultra HD Media Player at $699, hits shelves on July 15

A cinematic experience like nothing else on the market, but a price-tag that might set a few customers to the back of line, the 4K Ultra HD Media Player is up for pre-order at the Sony store and it will be shipping by the end of the month.
The brand new FMP-X1 4K Ultra HD Media Player was first announced just a few months ago, the price-tag of $699 isn’t too hard to swallow for such a powerful device, but it does only work with Sony 4K TVs.
If you choose to buy one of the X900A sets then you can get a $200 introductory discount. Sony also offers in-home setup and will waive the activation fee. You will have to set everything up through the website. That site will be up and running on July 8th.
All of this will launch alongside Sony’s new 4K movie distribution network. The new Video Unlimited 4K will grant customers films, TV episodes and content for download. The 4K beautifully rendered feature films will cost $7.99 for a 24-hour rental or you can buy them for $29.99.
