The chances of Christian Bale extending his performance of Batman into the upcoming Justice League movie were slim to none. There was hope that a fourth Batman film would be created, and Bale seemed to be onboard if Nolan directed, but Nolan already crushed that dream as well.
So that leaves the Justice League, and that has the Man of Steel and Dark Knight screenwriter David S. Goyer confirming already that the Batman in the Justice League film would have to be a reboot. If there was any hope that you were holding out for Bale to be in that reboot, it’s gone now.
“We were incredibly fortunate to get to make three [Batman movies]. That’s enough. Let’s not get greedy,” says Bale to EW while promoting his upcoming film ‘Out of the Furnace’. Bale continued, “Chris always said he wanted to make it one film at a time. And we ended up sitting there looking at each other, saying ‘We’re about to make the third.’ We never really knew if we were going to get to be there, but if that was how it was going to be, this was where it should end as well.”
When it comes to the Justice League movie Bale says he isn’t even in the loop, ”I have no information, no knowledge about anything. I’ve literally not had a conversation with a living soul. I understand that they may be making a Justice League movie, that’s it.”
So what’s it like hanging up the cape and cowl you ask? Bale says, “It’s a torch that should be handed from one actor to another. So I enjoy looking forward to what somebody else will come up with.”
