It looks like NBC will be the network to premier the sequel to the extremely popular ‘Bible’ series “A.D.: Beyond the Bible.”
The married duo of Burnett and wife Roma Downey (shown on the right) had tremendous success with their first 10-part History miniseries, and recently spoke up about the follow up. ‘Beyond the Bible’ will pick up shortly after Jesus was betrayed by Peter, then crucified and died. The duo stated that the series, “is another massive project and major commitment, but it’s a story that has to be told.” Although to be fair, it has been told we might add, that’s how they know about it.
“The Bible” was a major ratings magnet when it premiered on History last March. It topped 12 million viewers and even took on “The Walking Dead” form AMC and HBO’s “Game of Thrones.”
“I followed the development process of ‘The Bible’ closely with Mark and knew that the story was far from over after Christ’s Crucifixion. In fact, what happened in the aftermath – which is essentially the beginning of Christianity – is utterly fascinating,” said NBC chairman Bob Greenblatt. “The day after ‘The Bible’ premiered, I told Mark we were on board with no hesitation for the follow-up miniseries. This will be attention-getting in every way, and we’re proud to continue our association with Mark which has just grown exponentially from ‘The Voice.’”
The same people that worked on “The Bible” will bring you “Beyond the Bible,” with executive producers Downey, Burnett and Richard Bedser. The series will be a co-production between LightWorkers Media, Hearst Prods. and Universal TV.
