It was bound to happen sooner or later, the cornerstone of the SNL cast Fred Armisen, announced that he has left the show and will not be returning next year.
The talented SNL veteran confirmed that last season’s series would be his last. His last sketch ever on the show? The Sex Pistols tribute character Ian Rubbish. The actor told Splitsider, “I think it’s clear. I didn’t do any kind of official announcement, but I really felt like it was obvious,” he added “An ending that was a love letter to all the music I grew up with, and also to my friends and to SNL and to Lorne and to the cast.”
Armisen won’t be too far from his former career on SNL, Lorne Michaels is an executive producer on Armisen’s series, Portlandia. Fans of that show can look forward to a fourth season, expected to hit in early 2014. “You write until 6 and 7 in the morning, all night, and you just look like a mess, and your hair is a greasy but you’re there and the sun’s coming up and you’re in front of this computer writing and laughing really hard,” he said. “And that is something that I really will always miss.” Fred Armisen spent 11 years with SNL.
