HBO has revealed who will play one of the biggest roles yet to appear in the Game of Thrones series, the role of ‘Prince Oberyn Martell’. The part will be played by Chilean actor Pedro Pascal.
Without giving too much away for those of you that have yet to read the books (shame on you) The prince has one thing on his mind…revenge. He is vicious yet charming and is the prince of Dorne. He had a sister named Elia but she was murdered by the Lannister knight Gregor “The Mountain” Clegane. This happened when Mad King Aerys was overthrown by Robert Baratheon with help from the Lannisters. Oberyn will travel to King’s Landing for revenge in season four.
“This was a tough one,” David Benioff and Dan Weiss about the casting. “The Red Viper is sexy and charming, yet believably dangerous; intensely likable, yet driven by hate. The boys love him, the girls love him, and he loves them all back. Unless your last name is Lannister. We found a fellow who can handle the job description and make it seem effortless. He wasn’t easy to find and he won’t be easy to stop,” as reported by to EW.
