To play tribute to Annette Funicello, Disney has renamed the famous Mouseketeer Stage after the actress, the event took place at a ceremony held earlier this morning.
The stage is located at Walt Disney Studios, the very spot where The Mickey Mouse Club filmed and it will now be known as the Annette Funicello Stage. It was Disney chief Bob Iger who led a ceremony earlier today (Monday) officially dedicating the Burbank, California soundstage to Funicello. The actress went on to star in many films but she will always be a Mouseketeer, Funicello, who past away last April at the age of 70.
The ceremony was attended by former Mouseketeers, Funicello’s family was also in attendance, as well as Mickey Mouse himself who participated in the Monday’s dedication. Frankie Avalon, Richard Sherman, and Leonard Maltin were among those honoring the late actress. There is only one other person to have a namesake stage, that is Julie Andrews.
