Lifetime’s ‘Devious Maids’ kicked off its season premier, according to the Nielsen ratings it captured 2 million viewers. Though the show is still surrounded with a degree of uncertainty.
The show is in an awkward position socially. At first it was praised for bringing a Latina cast to the forefront of TV, something that is indeed lacking on television’s lineup, but casting a them as a group of maids is hardly a step-forward for breaking boundaries. The show is based on a popular latin-series, which should help smooth things over in that department but many people still look at the show as a step backwards. The Marc Cherry-created drama premiered yesterday (Sunday night) you can catch a glimpse below.

According to the official Nielsen ratings, the show grabbed a 0.65 with the 18-49 demographic, one-third landed in the target women 25-54 demo. Starring Ana Ortiz, Dania Ramirez, Roselyn Sanchez, Edy Ganem and Judy Reyes the series has a strong cast, it will be interesting to see how viewers respond to the setting. The telenovela “Ellas son la Alegria del Hogar” the show is based on is produced by ABC Studios.
