Sam Taylor-Johnson will direct the film-adaptation of ’50 Shades Of Grey’ Universal Pictures and Focus Features are also onboard for the project. The script comes from Kelly Marcel, though it is heavily dependent on the book written by EL James. Soon the screen will light up with the sexual tales of the 27-year-old billionaire Christian Grey and his young Anastasia Steele. Producing the film will be Dana Brunetti and Michael De Luca, as well as El James.
“Sam’s unique ability to gracefully showcase complex relationships dealing with love, emotion and sexual chemistry make her the ideal director to bring Christian and Anastasia’s relationship to life,” said De Luca adding, “EL James’ characters and vivid storytelling require a director who is willing to take risks and push the envelope where needed, and Sam is a natural fit.”
The James’ trilogy was bought by Universal and Focus in March 2012 with Focus Features set to distribute the film with Universal. The books have sold over 70 million copies in e-book and print.
