It seems that even Sony can’t make up its mind between Mary Jane Watson and Gwen Stacy. The studio has decided that it can do more with Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone) in the second film and will push Mary Jane Watson (Shailene Woodley shown to the right) into the third project.
We reported yesterday that Sony has put a date on the third and the fourth installments of the popular rebooted Spider-Man franchise (one of Sony’s largest and most profitable franchises). It was confirmed earlier today that in ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’, Shailene Woodley will not be appearing. If you were excited to see the Mary Jane character, you will have to wait for third film.
“I made a creative decision to streamline the story and focus on Peter and Gwen and their relationship,” director Marc Webb explained in a statement to the press. “Shailene is an incredibly talented actress and while we only shot a few scenes with Mary Jane, we all love working with her.”
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is scheduled to hit theaters on May 2, 2014. The following films will land on June 10, 2016 and May 4, 2018.
