Disney officially moves ahead with ‘Girl Meets World’
Cory and Topanga are all grown up and moving onto the Disney Channel. Disney announced today that it has ordered a series of “Girl Meets World,” and that the new show will be coming to the Disney Channel.
The show is a continuation of the ’90s ABC sitcom “Boy Meets World,” and will feature Ben Savage and Danielle Fishel in their original roles as Cory and Topanga, only this time as adults with a family.
“Girl Meets World” follows the life of young Riley Matthews, the daughter of Cory and Topanga, with her best friend Maya as they hit middle school. Rowan Blanchard (Spy Kids All the Time in World in 4D) will play Riley, and Sabrina Carpenter will play Maya. It will be a Multicam sitcom from It’s A Laugh Productions. The “Boy Meets World” creators, Michael Jacobs and April Kelly, will exec produce “Girl Meets World.”
“I am grateful to everyone at Disney Channel for the opportunity to reach my favorite audience, which has always been kids,” Jacobs said. “‘Girl Meets World’ is a new show for a new generation that will be rooted in the same kind of honest, comedic storytelling about coming of age and the importance of family and friendship that made ‘Boy Meets World’ so popular.”
