After some intense bidding, Universal Pictures has acquired the rights to the new film “Don’t Mess With Texas,” the film already has two major stars, Reese Witherspoon and Sofia Vergara.
Witherspoon nabbed a producing credit on the project, David Feeney and John Quaintance will be writing the script. Witherspoon’s producing partner, Bruna Papandrea, is also part of the Pacific Standard production company as well as Dana Fox.
The story is still in its early stages it seems, a police officer and a prisoner are on the loose after crooked cops try and have them both arrested under false pretenses. Universal’s Vice President of production, Kristin Lowe, will be the studio’s rep for the film. Production will not begin until 2014. Sofia Vergara will also star in ‘Machette Kills,’ Reese was last seen in her arrest footage, screaming that she was an American.
