In a very understandable decision, George Strait has confirmed that he has canceled his appearance at this year’s CMT awards. His reps released a statement earlier today.
It as Tuesday that Strait’s 91-year-old father, John Byron Strait, died Tuesday after battling an illness that he suffered from for a long time. John Strait was a beloved Texas junior high school teacher. The CMT Awards air Wednesday on CMT at 8 p.m. ET/PT on CMT and CMT.com.
“We are grateful for the time over the last few weeks we were able to spend with Daddy before he passed away,” the country singer stated on a note to fans on his official website. “I want to thank everyone for their prayers and support during this difficult time as we mourn our family’s loss.”
The CMT Awards air Wednesday on CMT at 8 p.m. ET/PT on CMT and CMT.com.
