The graduates of the 2013 class began chanting “Speech,” when Affleck accepted his degree. Although Affleck has accomplished many, many goals in the film industry he admitted that he never received a college diploma before Brown’s honorary Doctor of Fine Arts degree. Affleck stated, “This is a spectacular honor for me,” he told his fellow graduates, “now I surpass Matt Damon.”

Affleck himself is a Boston native, as is his long-time friend an often times collaborator Matt Damon. Affleck’s mother was in attendance, she made the trip to the ceremony to watch her son become an honorary doctorate recipient. In total the class received 2,419 degrees in total. This marks the 245th graduating class of Brown University.
