There are few franchises that drum-up as much anticipation and hope in gamers like the idea of another ‘Star Wars: Battlefront’ installment. Although that title shouldn’t be something you just toss around, that’s exactly what EA CFO Blak Jorgensen did earlier this week.
EA Games’ figureheads were most recently seen at Microsoft’s Xbox: One announcement briefing. At that event the focus was mainly on EA Sports, with little mention of other EA titles that are expected to release later this year. Though more will be announced on EA’s future games during E3 2013 this year.
The CFO Blake Jorgensen did manage did to cause a bit of a stir at the Stifel 2013 Technology Conference in New York this week however. Jorgensen talked about the future of “stand-alone games,” in the Star Wars franchise overall. Jorgensen these non-movie related titles would most likely come out “near the movies and be able to tailgate off of some of the buzz”. A move that would make sense for EA to capitalize on, but then he added, “The opportunity to do a new Battlefront, for example, which is one of the very popular Star Wars games, or some of the other traditional games that were made, is very exciting.,” this reported by GameSpot.
Whether or not Jorgensen was just tossing that title out into the crowd to make a headline or two remains unknown, I guess we should be happy that EA at least remembers that it has a franchise waiting for another installment. Most likely though, you will see more LEGO titles aimed at attracting a younger audience that will also be buying tickets to the film, watching the new animates series and buying the merch.
