Activision shows off Call of Duty Ghosts for Xbox One, talks exclusive DLC

Activision was on-hand to show off the next-generation title “Call of Duty: Ghosts”, a new video was released earlier today at Microsoft’s Xbox One event.

It was Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg who described “Call of Duty: Ghosts” as a landmark title saying, “We’re pushing the genre and forward with Ghosts. I think a lot of people were expecting us to create Modern Warfare 4, but we didn’t want to rest on our laurels”. He later added, “We wanted to press the franchise forward with a new world and new engine.”

The title will have an alternate history mechanic, which will have America slowly declining and becoming the underdog in the world-stage. Activision and Infinity Ward also announced that Call of Duty: Ghosts will be the work of screenwriter Steve Gaghan (Traffic, Syriana and Rules of Engagement). The new multiplayer maps will be dynamic. Hirshberg described them saying that they would “become a character in the game.” Maps can be modified, have weather elements and dynamic content and one image showed a player closing a door and breaking off the handle to protect himself.

“You’ll have learn what’s dynamic and what’s not. Learning of the map becomes even more critical because you know how to manipulate the environment and use it against your enemies,” Hirshberg said. “It’s gonna be kinetic and fast and visceral, and you’re gonna have to learn it to earn it.”

Call of Duty: Ghosts will release on November 5, 2013 for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. DLC will once again be timed exclusives with Microsoft.
