Although “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” might be finished, a new animated series set in the Star Wars Universe is set to launch in Fall 2014.
Disney XD made the official announcement earlier this morning, the company has greenlit the animated series “Star Wars Rebels” to air on the network on production has already began. The show will be a one-hour special on the Disney Channel, then it will splinter-off to a series on Disney XD. The same person that brought you the Sherlock Holmes franchise will be an EP on the project and the writer for the first episode. Dave Filoni was a supervising director on “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” and will now be an EP with Greg Weisman.
“The entire team at Lucasfilm has provided extraordinary creativity and innovation over three decades, and we’re thrilled to be bringing the expansive and imaginative world of ‘Star Wars’ to Disney XD’s viewers,” said Gary Marsh, president and chief creative officer, Disney Channels Worldwide.
The series will live in between the third film and the fourth film, an unexplored timeline for the series. The Empire is in control of the universe with rebels being hunted down and Jedis being assassinated.
