Uma Thurman takes on her first biopic in ‘Anita’
Altough Uma has played many roles in the past, across many different genres of film, she has yet to play an actual historical person. That will change however after she completes the upcoming role of “Anita”.
It will be the same pair that brought you “Lovelace”, a terrific film that premiered at the Sundance Music Festival, from Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman. The duo will co-direct the film and the screenplay was written by Chad Hodge. The film is based on a true story, following the celebrity-singer “Anita Bryant”. The story surrounds the time that Bryant took in a gay screenwriter, a situation that clashed with Bryant’s former anti-gay Christian past. Bryant supported the movement to overturn gay rights laws in Florida, a move that ultimately ruined her career.
The film will be produced by Darren Star, Howard Rosenman, Jeffrey Schwarz and Dennis Erdman.
