Blackberry Messenger Goes Cross-Platform

Blackberry’s incredibly popular messaging app, Blackberry Messenger, is finally spreading its wings, coming to Android devices this summer. Is it too little too late?
Announced this morning during the Blackberry Live streaming event, BBM is coming to Android (and later iOS). It will include groups, voice chat, screen share and more. To be completely honest, I’m having a hard time seeing how it can compete with the likes of Google Talk, something like Skype, or even the upcoming Google Hangouts (formerly Babel) messaging service.
And aren’t there other ways of chatting….like TEXT? I’m honestly very curious to see how many people are still stubbornly using only BBM as their sole means of communication, and why that’s the case. Only time will tell if this will pan out for Blackberry.
