It was a time that many people still remember, when the US-flagged MV Maersk Alabama was sieged by Somali pirates. Tom Hanks will star in the upcoming film that retells that experience.
Hanks will play the role of Captain Richard Phillips, the captain of the above-mentioned ship (the first American cargo ship to be hijacked in two hundred years by the way). The film is being directed by Paul Greengrass and based on a screenplay written by Billy Ray and the book written by Richard Phillips and Tatty “A Captain’s Duty: Somali Pirates, Navy SEALS, and Dangerous Days at Sea”. The film also stars Catherine Keener (Andrea Phillips), Max Martini (SEAL Commander), John Magaro (Dan Phillips) and Christopher Stadulis (Charlie Spotter).
The film is expected to premier on October 11, 2013.
