Meebo was purchased by Google over a year ago, and with that purchase many thought the social-sharing and advertising bar would become Google+ themed. Instead it’s just being axed all together.
You have probably seen the Meebo bar on other sites, it sits at the bottom of your screen and offers visitors a chance to easily share the page’s content on social-media platforms.
No sense looking for it if you haven’t been a user, Google confirmed that the Meebo Bar will no longer be available for use as of June 6th 2013. If you have the tool on your site, it will simply no longer function after date. The reason behind the cancelation? In a recent email sent to Meebo publishers Google states:
“As part of the Google team, this continues to be our focus, but we want to best serve mobile and desktop publishers moving forward. Therefore, we have decided to focus our resources on initiatives like the recently launched Google+Sign-In (which includes interactive posts and over-the-air app installs) and the Google+ plug-ins”.
